Agritech Midwest FAQ’s
FAQs - COMING SOON
How long does a GPS auto-steer installation take?
Most installations are completed within half a day.
- Guidance-ready tractors: around 2–4 hours
- First-time installs or older machines: 4–8 hours
- Complex setups: may take up to one full day
If you’re moving equipment between machines that are already set up, changeovers can take as little as 15–45 minutes.
What accuracy can I expect from your GPS systems?
Accuracy depends on the correction signal used:
- RTK: approximately 2–5 cm repeatable accuracy
- Satellite correction services: typically 5–15 cm
- SBAS / standard GPS: around 20 cm to 1 m
For most spraying, spreading, and seeding operations, pass-to-pass accuracy is what matters most—and all our systems are stable and reliable for broadacre farming.
Are your systems compatible with my existing equipment?
In most cases, yes.
Our systems are compatible with the majority of tractors, sprayers, spreaders, and seeders used in WA broadacre farming. We support:
- Factory guidance-ready machines
- Steering wheel motor systems
- Hydraulic auto-steer installations
- ISOBUS-capable implements (where applicable)
Compatibility depends on machine make, model, and year, which we confirm before installation.
Do I need internet connectivity to use the equipment in the field?
Not for basic operation.
- GPS guidance and auto-steer: work fully offline
- RTK via mobile network: requires a data connection
- Satellite correction services: do not require mobile coverage once activated
Internet access is mainly needed for setup, updates, or cloud syncing—not day-to-day field work.
What's the learning curve for operators who haven't used precision ag technology before?
Most operators are comfortable very quickly.
- First day: driving guidance lines and engaging auto-steer
- Within a few days: confident operation in paddocks
- Within a week: comfortable with mapping, section control, and variable rate (if used)
Our team provides setup support and practical guidance to make sure operators are confident before heading to the paddock.
How much can I realistically save with precision agriculture technology?
Savings vary by operation, but common benefits include:
- 3–10% reduction in chemical, fertiliser, or seed use from reduced overlap
- Lower fuel use and machine hours
- Improved timeliness, especially during tight spraying and seeding windows
- Reduced operator fatigue
For most broadacre growers, the technology pays for itself through input savings and efficiency gains, rather than dramatic yield increases.
What kind of maintenance do these systems require?
Maintenance requirements are minimal.
- Keep screens, receivers, and connectors clean
- Avoid pressure-washing electronic components
- Check cables and mounts periodically
- Apply software updates when recommended
We handle firmware updates, calibrations, and technical checks as part of our service.
Can I move equipment between different tractors or machines?
Yes. Our rental systems are designed to be flexible.
- Displays and GPS receivers can be moved between machines
- Changeovers are quick once machines are pre-set
- Hydraulic components are usually machine-specific
This allows you to use one system across multiple machines during the season.
What's included in your warranty and what happens if something breaks during harvest?
Our rental agreements cover normal operational faults and system failures.
- Covered: hardware faults, software issues, GPS or steering controller failures
- Not covered: physical damage, water ingress, incorrect power supply, or misuse
If an issue occurs during a critical period, we prioritise rapid troubleshooting and replacement to minimise downtime.
How does variable rate technology actually work, and is it worth it for my farm?
Variable Rate Technology (VRT) automatically adjusts application rates based on location in the paddock.
How it works:
- A prescription map is created using yield data, soil maps, imagery, or grower knowledge
- The system uses GPS position to apply the correct rate in each zone
When it’s worth it:
- Lime and gypsum applications
- Nitrogen management
- Variable seeding rates on mixed soil types
When it may not be necessary:
- Very uniform paddocks
- Limited data or time to manage prescriptions
Many growers start with one product on one paddock to assess value before expanding.
